In How to take smart notes, there is an example about exergonic and endergonic reactions.

In the first case, you have to constantly add energy to keep the process going. While in the second case, the reaction, once triggered, continues by itself and even releases energy.

The author argues that in work, the dynamics are not so different. Sometimes we feel like the work is draining our energy, and we can only move forward if we put more energy into it. But sometimes it is the opposite.

This is the kind of work we are looking for. There will always be times when we'll find work to be draining and energy consuming, but we want to maximize the amounts of time when the work itself energizes us. And this is taking smart notes is so important.
