The Need to Watch YouTube

I realized something by not having internet for 2 days straight. Why do I watch YouTube so much? I know it's mainly for entertainment and nothing else, well...maybe I do get to learn some things from it, but mostly it's just entertainment and nothing more. The Speed of Consumption makes it easy to watch for hours without putting in much effort.

YouTube does admit that they try to make sure that the session times of is users are high. That they stick to their platform for longer. And that is the reason why they promote people like Mr. Beast, etc. who keep the audience watching for a long time.

Here's the real issue I have with it though! Most of the things I watch, I know what they are going to cover, I know the kind of things they will say. It's rare that I learn about something from YouTube that I already don't know about.

So naturally the question becomes, Why the hell should I watch YouTube so much? And this is a straight one to answer. It is just entertaining and nothing else.

I can do so much better if I just stop watching YouTube and spend most of my time reading and writing about things.
